Broomfield HYPE is inviting people to eat, drink and be ugly – all in the name of a good cause.
On Dec. 2, HYPE (Helping Young Professionals Evolve) will host its second Ugly Holiday Sweater Mixer.
The mixer will start at 5:30 p.m. and end roughly 8:30 p.m.at Copper Leaf Gardens and Event Center, 1200 Miramonte St.
HYPE member Korin Pusillo, who is head of networking events, joined the organization when she rejoined the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce in January.
“The whole point of the event is to raise money for Colorado Gives Day, which is Dec. 10,” Pusillo said.
Colorado Gives Day is a major source of funding for many area nonprofits. Through coloradogives.org, people can choose to donate or raise money for their favorite nonprofit.
Fundraising from they HPYE event is going toward “Caring for Broomfield Together” – a group of local nonprofits that banded together to raise money for Colorado Gives Day. On its website, broomfieldtogether.com, people can sign up to donate to five nonprofits, including FRIENDS of Broomfield, A Precious Child, Broomfield FISH, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity and Bal Swan Children’s Center.
The ugly sweater party is a night of networking, Pusillo said, but it’s also a community event.
People are asked to pre-register through the chamber’s website, broomfieldchamber.com, and look for the event via the calendar tab. People who come that day can pay cash or credit – $25 for chamber members and $35 for non-chamber members. Gourmet Kitchen, the catering group inside Copper Leaf, is providing food.
The mixer is for ages 21 and older. One drink ticket will be issued for each person, and a full cash bar will be available, as well.
Check-in is between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. with speakers from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a silent disco hosted by Big Little Sound. The company provides headphones where people can listen, and dance to, different tunes from three different channels.
Organizers ask people to register by Nov. 29.
HYPE used to hold monthly events, Pusillo said, but now hosts a quarterly event that incorporates one or more of the three things HYPE hopes to achieve – networking, community support, and professional development.
The last event members participated in was the chamber’s annual Hoosball, or human fooseball, tournament. Lately members also have volunteered at organizations including A Precious Child.
HYPE is a program designed to provide young professionals in Broomfield, and the surrounding area, business skills training, peer coaching and networking. The group is for people ages 21 to 39and is open to chamber and non-chamber members.
A prize will be awarded to the person wearing the ugliest sweater.
