Looking forward to the Chief

Most Colorado football fans planning to travel to the Buffs game in Jacksonville, Fla., against Florida State on Sept. 27, probably assumed they would get to see one of the better pregame traditions in the nation.
No, the Buffs aren't taking Ralphie to the Sunshine State as they did when they traveled to Georgia two years ago. It's a little too far, about six hours beyond Atlanta, considering she would have to be rushed back for a game at Folsom Field the very next week.
CU fans will get to see Florida State mascot Chief Osceola ride his horse Renegade to midfield and throw the flaming spear into the ground, Florida State officials recently announced. The tradition routinely makes top-lists for the best pregame college rituals, as does Ralphie's romp around Folsom Field.
It would be pretty cool to see both Chief Osceola and Ralphie before the game. Maybe that can happen at some point in the future. Maybe a bowl game?

That sucks! It was one of the greatest representations of the university to send Ralphie to Georgia. I was standing by her prior to the game when all of the Georgia fans could not stop talking about the Buffalo. They were all so excited we brought Ralphie down there and cheered as loud as CU fans we she ran prior to each half.

I love how the NCAA tried to ban that tradition, and the usage of the native American Seminole name/mascot for the team. Then the Seminole nation told them they like it, are active participants in the ritual and find it an honor and respectfull and the NCAA had to back off completely.
