Geer to miss first two games
Posted August 25, 2008
Colorado junior tight end Riar Geer will miss the first two games of the season recovering from a minor surgery to clean up a chronic cartilage problem. He underwent surgery late last week.
Geer, who was suspended earlier this year after an off-campus fistfight, is not suspended for the two games, assistant athletic director for sports information Dave Plati said.
Geer's absence will likely push fellow junior Patrick Devenny into the starting lineup in the season opener against Colorado State on Sunday in Denver. It would be Devenny's first career start. True freshman Ryan Deehan also could see playing time with Geer out, though Deehan was likely to play this season anyway.
Others such as Devin Shanahan and fullbacks Maurice Cantrell and Jake Behrens could fill Geer's shoes in some instances. Fullbacks and tight ends are listed together in one position grouping on the CU depth chart and tight ends coach Kent Riddle coaches both positions.
...Plati also said CU has sold out its allotment of tickets (both public and student) for the CSU game. Tickets from the CSU allotment are still available through Ticketmaster outlets, but those tickets will be located in enemy territory if you're a CU fan.
...And finally, Plati also addressed speculation from Internet sites about the possibility of CU playing a game this year in throwback blue and gold uniforms used in the Chuck Fairbanks era. Plati said there is no such plan at this time, but there has been talk in the past of finding a way to honor those teams.

Nice to hear CU sold all of it's tickets. Just goes to show the program is heading in the right direction.
If they can win their first two games, then the FSU game will hopefully picked up for national TV.

Wow, that's too bad about Geer, hopefully we won't need him the first two games but you'd think he could of had the surgery for a "chronic problem" during his suspension, no?

I'm not sure about this, but I don't think Geer could have received any benefit from being a player during his suspension. If memory serves, Geer received a knee injury during the FSU game last year. Hopefully he will be back stronger, better, and more focused for the entire season.
