Mangino still defending 2007 schedule
Posted July 22, 2008
We've started Day Two of Big 12 football media days here in Kansas City with Kansas coach Mark Mangino picking up right where he left off in January, defending a weak schedule that many believe helped the Jayhawks reach national prominence last season.
Mangino faces a much tougher slate this fall with Texas and Oklahoma back on the schedule along with Texas Tech. The Jayhawks also play South Florida and will get Colorado and Nebraska teams eager to redeem themselves from last season.
Mangino did acknowledge that his program won't be at the level he wants it to be until the Jayhawks prove they can beat Texas and Oklahoma and win a conference championship.
"We will never truly get over the hump in my eyes --- I don't know how anybody else sees it --- but in my eyes until we're able to defeat those teams as well," Mangino said.
The Buffs are up next.
