Darrell Scott back to punt

Posted July 22, 2008

There was a lot of interest in Colorado running back recruit Darrell Scott at Big 12 football media days here in Kansas City today. Perhaps the most interesting comments made about Scott came from coach Dan Hawkins, who said he believes Scott could be a decent punter on the college level.

Hawkins said he might put Scott back to punt at times this season and going forward in his career because of the problems it will cause opponents. Of course, Scott will have to prove he can be an effective punter in those situations for the move to have maximum impact on punt return teams.

"He can really bang it," Hawkins said. "...We have Matt DiLallo who is a very good punter as well. I'm just saying, I know myself and if I see their tailback playing punter, I'm thinking, Hmmmm. I might be looking at this a little differently," Hawkins said.

We will have plenty more on the Buffs later on Buffzone.

Here's another idea....let's move one of our best lineman to 3rd string fullback....oh, wait....

Best lineman?

Go back and watch the Alabama tape then make a guess why he had very little chance holding off Faatagi, Bahr, Iltis or Behrens.

Not to mention Max coming in near 100%.

Its going to take Buff fans a year or two to understand the talent we finally have at OL. Its been almost a decade.

chapmace,

You may not know that Scott was also a part time punter in HS, a pretty good one at that. So, this isn't just some whim, he's already held the job before during real game situations.

And, from what I read in the local newspapers his punts were farther then some teams starting punters.

After he punts a few times and when he does goes and runs it, just think of the yardage he could get.

And if more guys have to protect the line of scrimage, then the gunners and other fast guys will have less guys down field to deal with when taking on the return guy.

Etc, etc.
