Colorado freshman center Marc Van Burck will miss four to six weeks after suffering a stress fracture in his right foot, officials said Thursday.
Van Burck, a 6-foot-11, 280-pound freshman from Star City, Saskatchewan, played six minutes and scored two points with two rebounds in the season opener last week against the University of Denver. He traveled to New Mexico with the team for Tuesday’s game but did not play in the loss to the Lobos.
Van Burck’s injury compounds coach Ricardo Patton’s depth problem in the post. The Buffs already suffer from a lack of big men. Junior Marcus King-Stockton was the only post player with any significant experience on the roster at the beginning of the season.
CU is now down to four post players, including Jermyl Jackson-Wilson and Jeremy Williams, who are both undersized.
