COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- For the first time since 2005, the Colorado women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament on Friday.

The Buffs blanked Kansas 5-0 in the tournament quarterfinals, the second time this season the Buffs beat KU. The win earned the team a spot in the semis today against No. 3-ranked Baylor at 1 p.m.

"We knew that Kansas was going to come fighting at us," CU coach Nicole Kenneally said. "I'm really proud of how we came out and took control early, especially in the doubles."

At No. 1 doubles, Camila Belassi and Monica Milewski won their match 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, Melisa Esposito and Franziska Jendrian won their match 8-0. That gave the Buffs a 1-0 lead.

In singles, Belassi, Esposito, Gleisy Torres Torres and Veera Nurmi all won in straight sets.

CU's Monica Milewski didn't need to finish her match at No. 1 singles, nor did Franziska Jendrian at No. 7 singles.

"Over in singles, we really had some major fights on our hands and we just kept staying with them," Kenneally said. "I was excited to see how we pulled out a lot of those tight first sets."
