Evans second QB to commit to Buffs
California quarterback threw for more than 2,000 yards as junior
Dan Hawkins received the third commitment to Colorado's 2009 recruiting class on Wednesday.
Clark Evans, a 6-foot-5 quarterback from Los Alamitos, Calif., has given a verbal commitment to the Buffs according to scout.com.
Evans threw for more than 2,000 yards and rushed for almost a 1,000 as a junior. Scout.com ranks the dual-threat signal-caller as the No. 34 quarterback in the country and a three-star recruit.
Before committing to Colorado, Evans also received offers from Kansas State, Arizona, Boise State and San Diego State.
Evans is the second quarterback to commit to Hawkins' 2009 class. Jordan Wynn, a 6-foot-2½ signal-caller from Oceanside, Calif., committed to CU last month. Wide receiver Jarrod Darden, from Keller, Texas, rounds out the Buffs' commits list thus far.
2009 football recruits
Jarrod Darden, WR, 6-5, 205, Keller (Central HS), Texas
Jordan Wynn, QB, 6-2½, 187, Oceanside (Oceanside HS), Calif.
Clark Evans, QB, 6-5, 225, Los Alamitos (Los Alamitos HS), Calif.

huge. The kid can run as well. First big time dual threat cu has had in years. We might have a kordell stewart here. Tall- care to comment. or is his height exaggerated like everybody elses.
anyways, hawk, huge pick up. just another sign of a another great recruiting class.

A great big Black/Gold/Silver Buffalo welcome to our newest recruit! Congratulations to the staff. I'm anxious to see what Mr. Evans accomplishes in his senior season. Go Buffs!

Gosh, and I thought no kid would want to play QB at CU because the coach favored his son.
And wait a minute: didn't wheresmymommy say yesterday that Hawk only recruited shorter players so his son would look taller?
Something's gotta be wrong here.

I totally agree. If there was favoritism, 2 QBs wouldn't have committed to CU. They obviously believe that have a shot at playing QB. I would love to see some top DB recruits.

Hey Talli, another top player from a Nebraska high school just committed to an out of state university (Kansas). Your boy Bo P can't even recruit local Nebraska boys to play for the sorry Fuskers. Restore the Order my As*.

Ya know Salsa, it seems the kid never really considered Nebraska as an option in the first place. According to the Omaha World-Herald:
Off-the-field issues also played a part in his decision, "I met with an academics counselor first thing, which showed me that they're not concerned with just football. I'm looking to get an education first."

I agree kimo - it would be nice to see some promising defensive lineman commits also. Who are our top prospects at DB that we actually have a legitimate shot at landing?

Can't speak to how legitimate a shot CU has in signing any of these guys but here are some of the top prospects, according to rivals:

Humble pondering:
I think it is important for fans to consider that during all this recruiting\building a program\competing, kids are making the most important decision of their lives deciding where to go to school. We are all quick to project them as the next superstar, but many are looking at education, opportunity, life after football already. They happen to have options because of football, but it isn't the be all\ end all of their lives.
I enjoy seeing recruits committ and talking potential, but lets celebrate those that know they are going to be role players or are looking at academics first as well.
That being said, welcome Evans, Wynn and Darden. I hope your CU experience is all YOU want it to be, not what all us fans might project on you for it to be.

Thanks Rod - I am guessing we would have the best shot at the CA kids, Sermons and Bolden. Gabe Lynn looks like a real player but when is the last time we pulled a kid out of OK? We have had some luck with Tennessee kids (Goree and Shields) so maybe we could lock up Eric Gordon or Gene Robinson.
There is an in-state kid, Turmour Battle, that seems to be garnering more attention also - looks like Minnesota just offered him.
There are a couple of ATH that could be good fits at corner - two from Chandler HS in AZ, Markus Wheaton and Bryce Lamb. We offered Wheaton first and he has already visited.
Good comments Arch

It's interesting with Gordon, the TN kid. His other choices are obvious, given geography, so Colorado stands out a bit. Maybe that's a good sign, especially if Shields and Goree emerge this year.

Dude looks like a stud, and with the complex offense we are running, it's great to have a mix of QBs with different skill sets - gives us so many more options. Calling him the next Tebow probably isn't fair to him at all, but he seems to have a similar style of play.
Tall hasn't been around for a couple days, is it bow hunting season, or is good news scaring him away?

Can't wait to check this guy out this fall. I'll be going to a game or two of his and will report back what I see.

2000 yards? with the offense I saw them running? Impressive. Let's hope he stays with this commitment as the things I see him doing in the spread option are definitely very very bad for our opponents.
My only issue with the guy is that his motion is SLOW. His whole body rocks into it, but it definitely takes a while to get the ball out. However, once he does, WOOOEEE look out its a LAZZZER!

I can't say its surprising that we are getting a few QB recruits for the post-Cody era. These kids are entering their senior years of high school, so once they are even in Boulder, Cody will be a junior. They redshirt for one year while Cody plays out his junior year, so that doesn't take away their eligibility, and then they sit for an extra year while Cody finishes his CU career. Normal progression for a college QB.
But I am still not sold on the fact that Cody will be the starting QB for his entire career at CU, notwithstanding the lineage issue.
If other QBs on the squad deserve to start, something they have apparently not shown as of yet, I fully expect Hawk do to what is best for the team. Otherwise, I think he would lose most people's respect.

good post by earmuffs
I agree that there is a distinct possibility Cody may not start for his entire career.
However, the mental part is probably bigger than the arm for being successful at qb. The mental part is obviously something tall doesnt understand.
I also think Cody is mature enough to handle a demotion in good spirits, unlike the apologists and childish vendetta artists for players and coaches since gone, who post here.

If Cody was a starter as a Freshman, how will he not be a starter as his career progresses, assuming he improves mentally and physically?
Posted by SnowBuff on July 3, 2008 at 6:55 p.m. (Suggest removal)
because its a rare QB that progresses significantly throughout their career. Despite the common perception about what happens, SMQ recently did a study on this and found that only extremely talented QB's have a sharp upward trend in production. Cody is an average QB with above average mental skills and below average physical ones. If we give him the tools, he can be successful (like Klatt). If we don't give him the tools, he probably won't be spectacular. On the good side, I don't see Cody having any less to work with than he did last year through the rest of his career. So if last year was slightly below average nationally, that should be regarded as his absolute floor.

i admit that iam biased and optimistic.but I dont see cody losin his job.
If it does happen. That would mean we are having a sub-par season. I dont see it. Not even with the schedule .
If he doesnt lose his job this year, he shouldnt lose it at all.

I think Cody will succeed and earn the right to start his whole career. But, he could be displaced - who knows. Maybe a Major Applewhite type situation in the future (??)

snowbuff motion is slow?we are not watching the same highlights.i watched him on scout and this young man can scoot!i hope in a couple of years we will see a Hawkins/Clark like what
florida had with Leak/Tebow.i think coach Hawkins can envision using him early the way he was going to use B. Jackson with Cody in motion, direct snap 2 the other qb with the possibility of run or pass.this kid runs like a fullback with a big arm!
Posted by SnowBuff on July 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Let me clear that up. His throwing motion is slow to develop and needs to be changed. He throws it like a baseball pitcher. Once it eventually delivers, DAAAAMNNN its a rocket. Other than that, he is damn quick for a big dude for sure.

WOW That guy and those idiots are trying to look into their dream world and are STILL living on fantasyisland. That is the worst season prediction I have ever seen and well, what else can you expect from a confident, yet "we suck" bunch of Fuskers?.. lol. Sorry Nebraska, the 2000's just weren't meant to be for you guys. So stop talking and climb back into your caves where you grew up in Nebraska.
Go Buffs!
