CU coaches, recruits to connect
Hawkins started 'Friday Night Lights' camp three years ago
The first commitment of the 2009 Colorado football recruiting class could come from a select group of 40 seniors who will be in Folsom Field tonight taking part in the program's "Friday Night Lights" camp.
The one-day camp is not advertised on the CU Web site along with the rest of the camps offered by coach Dan Hawkins' program because while it is technically open to others, it is meant to be an opportunity for 2009 recruits to get to know coaches while participating in drills and skills competitions.
This is the third year CU has offered the camp, which was first conceived when Hawkins took over in Boulder after serving as head coach for five years at Boise State.
Players will compete with each other in a quarterback challenge, an obstacle course and in catching sky-high punts shot from a jugs machine. They will also play football video games against each other on the stadium video boards.
Mark Nolan, director of on-campus recruiting for the football program, said today kicks off a busy month for Hawkins and his staff with a total of five camps scheduled, including a team camp, a father-son camp and a passing jamboree.
While CU coaches do their best to connect with every youngster involved in any of their camps, tonight's camp usually is the most personal because of the limited numbers.
"We just want to have a good time with these guys and get to know them a little better and let them get to know us," Nolan said.
Colorado is one of two Big 12 Conference programs yet to receive a commitment for the 2009 class. The other is Kansas State. Hawkins has started slowly in recruiting the past two years as well but came on strong during the season. Last year CU recruited one of the top 20 classes in the nation.
Hawkins said he expects to sign about 18 players in the 2009 class. That number could change over the next eight months before national signing day in the first week of February.

Man, whatever he is doing just keep it up.....
The Big Time in-stater's seem to be digging the direction the program is going (see Miller..Givens and Major)...and word seems to be getting out Nationally (see Scott...Mariner and Blackmon)
Now let's take down fsu and W. V......
Go Buffs....

Video games on the stadium boards? How can I get to do that? I think that would be even more fun than running out with Ralphie.

Ok, so the previous post has nothing to do with this discussion.
Anways, the Buffs have some solid offers out on the table. We will be getting some very impressive visits this summer from top talent. Hawks strategy of giving young men time to think about the offer will really pay off.

Great timing! 40 recruits coming in at the same time the coach is getting an extension. I'm hoping for a good weekend full of commitments.
GO BUFFS!!!!

Tallisall actually thinks someone on this board cares....that's pretty funny.
The Buffs list of recruits for 09 looks is the most impressive I've seen. I'm sure we will manage to nab a handful of the blue-chips on the list.
GO BUFFS!

with a limited number of scholarships available this year i'm glad that we don't have any committs yet. I'm certain that Hawk is being very selective in who he is going after and only wants to get solid players on and off the field. Let's wait and see and I'm sure in February we'll see yet another great crop of talent.
We need...
1 top QB
2 top CB's
3 OL
3 DL
3 WR
1 S
1 RB
2 LB
2 DE

Tall - regarding your take on the NU recruitng rankings. That just goes to show you that the recruiting rankings are a joke. In hind sight those classes weren't really that good. After all you were so upset when Maiava left and he was not a highly ranked recruit.

Wrong on WVU. They just lost a starting DB today. Add that to the fact that they only have 3 returning startes on defense now is huge. Originally it was 4, but now with the dismissal they are hurting on defense because they lack depth and experience at DB.
Do your homework troll.

Senior Charles Pugh was dismissed today from the West Virginia Mountaineers football team for what Coach Bill Stewart said in a news release was a violation of team rules...He became the fourth Mountaineers player -- including the third potential defensive starter for the 2008 season -- to be dismissed by the new coach since February.

Actually, nwb, that's the third prospective defensive starter - and fourth Mountaineer - booted off the WVU roster since Feb. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_ru...
By the way, Tall's mom sent this photo of her son with his hero. Not sure which one is tall, though.

Ah. Heckuva point, tall. Well, since their #7 pre-season, CU might as well not even play the darn game. Can I get a refund for my tix?

WV #7? Nothing more than freeloading east coast bias. Was it 71 when Jack Ham and Penn St came in, met the Raisders next receiver and went home with a 40 point loss?

dbs typically have a hard time shutting down receivers when the opposing quarterback has all day to throw. That will chamge this year.
Anyways we better pack it in, tal predicts we will only win 5 games. We all know how accurate his predictions can be.

And what was OU ranked last year when we beat them? #3 if I recall. #7 in a pre-season poll means about as much as the number of stars Maiava had when he arrived in Boulder.

Tallisall is just irritable cause he went to the oklahoma spring game and forgot the vaseline at home(well, technically his mom's home). But at least he got his Sam Bradford swimsuit calendar autographed!

The biggest myth over the last five years was that Nebraska was recruiting well.
When they played USC, 45 players from USC had received a scholarship offer from Nebraska and only one from Nebraska had received a scholarship offer from USC (Marlon Lucky).
Compare that to Scott, Major and Katoa this year alone.
Callahan must have been just signing up whoever Rivals told him to try.
Nebraska does NOT have good athletes right now. Their receivers are lame dog slow and their LB's are Clydesdales. And Pellini has a very weak staff (two members were actually not coaching the last two years). It will take a long time to make progress, if he does at all.
But, if it takes them another 22 years to win a national championship, like it did with Osborne, I guess that's alright.

Tal- your not not going to bring up glenn as an example as to why the neb. linebackerss might be fast. Are you?

CU just landed two recruits this weekend.
6-2 Pro style QB Jordan Wynn. He had over 5 scholarship offers.
6-5 WR Jarrod Darden. He had over 8 scholarship offers. A lot of people in Texas think he is one of the best WR in the state.

Thanks for the info. Ive heard a lot about darden, love his size.It seems like it has been a lon time since we have had a good receiver with size. never heard of wynn though.

Just watched video on darden. Looks like all you have 2 do is throw it up to this kid. We might have a player! GO BUFFS!!

tall, I think you are a little mixed up on Hawk only recruiting O. Just look at Katoa, Rippy, Major, and Mohler. Plus, did you not see CU in 2006? CU has needed a LOT of improvements offensively. Personally, I think his recruiting has been about dead on for the team's needs.

Flabuff,
Wynn was second team all-california with Brehaut (Barkley and Forcier were 1st team). A lot of programs were about to jump on him and his stock has been blowing up over the past few weeks. He already visited CU before and loved it. Helf offered and he jumped on it. Wake Forest and ASU were about to offer, too late.

great news! I also read that he has two teammates that are highly touted. And there stock are only rising.
James johnson 6ft 180 pound athlete being recruited by ucla and usc among others.
Cant remember the name on the other kid. He is a guard who is on the verge of blowing up.
Anyways we may have the inside track on these guys.

is only rising.... At what point do we get a little info from the camera about these guys.
If anybody can find links to video on wynn please post.

Darden looks like a stud.
Tall, good hands, great body control...He'll have to work on his speed. But, an endzone target that the Buffs will need in the future.
I'm pumped to see how our young TE's will adjust to big 12 play.

Per ESPN: "Overall, Wynn is one of the classes better passers and is likely not getting the attention he should from some of the bigger boys on the block. Very good prospect." - sounds intriguing.

Husker senior TE Hunter Teafatiller picked up his THIRD DUI this weekend. Pelini gave him a tongue lashing but that seems to be the extent of the punishment.

'scuse me for stepping on Tall's toes
but
at 6'2" he will be just hitting the offensive linemen in the shoulder blades instead of the but.

I have to admit the whole tall thing is getting old... BUT HE HAS TO BE GETTING OFF ON DARDENS SIZE! excuse me, Heighth!
But really! he hasnt posted anything and we are already mentioning his name (including me). As hard as it might be, maybe if we dont predict what he WILL say (as predictable as what will be said ). And just ignore him, maybe he will go away.
Posted by MinnesotaBuff on June 8, 2008 at 9:40 a.m. (Suggest removal)
From my experience the only way Tall ever goes away for an extended period of time is after a big CU win.
He blew smoke about OU and Bobby Stoops for weeks. Then what happend...27-24 CU...and he dropped off this board until the end of the season.
Tall has no life, only Buff wins shut him up.

Not until the end of the season...only for 7-10 days. Not to take his side...he had a legitimate (and manly) excuse; he was bow hunting.
He did trumpet the sooners pretty hard for the week leading up the game. I think it's his real team. Or maybe he's duped me, I don't know.

Regarding NU and their alleged 'talent', the following video pretty well shows a team of mostly first and second year guys wearing black that are faster, more physical and more fundamentally sound than the team wearing white.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=gNklc5j4p4I
DBs will be fine - the whole group is young but Im betting J. Smith will be a serious player and soon.
And WVU is overrated. They'll fall in Boulder - mark my words. Media will call it an upset, but it wont be. CU will be the better team. They'll split with KU and MU and with sound play at home, can beat Texas.
Posted by extrapoint on June 10, 2008 at 7:57 a.m. (Suggest removal)
ditto on Jimmy Smith
at 6-2 and 200 he is a force at CB.
I wonder if he can play the Hammond B3?
