ARDMORE, Okla. -- The University of Colorado men's golf team ended the regular season with an eighth-place finish at The Maxwell on Sunday.

Despite turning in the second-best team score of the day, a 6-under 274, the Buffs were unable to move up the leaderboard in the NCAA tuneup tournament.

No. 6 Oklahoma State rallied to win its seventh straight Maxwell title, overtaking second-round leader Michigan. OSU finished with an 809 total, or 31-under par, followed by Michigan (812), Wichita State (819) and Oklahoma City (821).

The Maxwell format has teammates play together and counts the low four scores for each hole toward the team score instead of the low four rounds. Had the scoring been traditional, the Buffs would have finished seventh and one stroke out of sixth.

Senior Michael Baird led CU, recording his team-best eighth top-20 finish. He finished tied for 13th with a 214 total on the par-70 Dornick Hills Country Club course.

Junior Derek Tolan carded the best round of college career Sunday with a 66. He finished at 218 and tied for 27th.

CU will begin play in the NCAA Central Regional at Ohio State's Scarlet Course on Thursday.
