Tolan slips from 3rd to 13th at Northwestern

GLENVIEW, Ill. -- Colorado senior Derek Tolan fell from third to 13th place on Monday at the Northwestern Windon Memorial, and the Colorado men's golf team had an 11th-place finish in the tournament.

Tolan shot a 3-over-par 75 in the final round after shooting a 67 in the second round, which was good enough to put him in third place on Sunday.

Colorado had a team score of 888, and Illinois won the team event, finishing at 843.

CU junior Luke Symons had the Buffs best finish behind Tolan. In the second and third rounds, Symons fired a par 72 in each and finished the tournament in 19th place.

"We're obviously pretty disappointed with the tournament overall," CU coach Roy Edwards said. "We thought we had a good chance of doing well coming here. We weren't able to cut our losses when we played bad and let everything snowball a little bit. Luke did a good job, and while not playing his best, managed his game well, and Derek and had a good round (Sunday) but never got things going to any degree today."
