LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Colorado senior Derek Tolan fired off consecutive rounds of 74 Monday for a 4-over par 148 to tie for 10th place after the first day of the ninth annual Prestige at PGA West.

Tolan heads into today's final play nine strokes off the lead.

His effort helped lead the CU men's golf team to also finish in 10th place after the first two rounds with a score of 609. TCU leads the team race with a 583.

"We had a rough go of it in the morning in tough conditions, but were hanging in there. We just didn't finish well," CU coach Roy Edwards said. "We wanted to come out and take charge in the second round but that didn't materialize. We did finish better at the end of day, and we still have a chance to beat some very good teams and post a solid finish if we play the way we know we are capable of (today)."
