Former University of Colorado Buffs linebacker Jordon Dizon, who now plays for the Detroit Lions, pleaded guilty Thursday in Boulder County District Court to driving while ability impaired.

Dizon, 22, was sentenced to 24 hours of community service, plus $895 in fines and court costs. He was not in court; his lawyer, Peter Schaffer, entered the plea on his behalf.

Dizon was arrested April 20 on 13th Street in Boulder and ticketed on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and failing to provide proof of insurance. According to a police report, Dizon’s blood-alcohol level was 0.097, above the legal limit of 0.05.

As part of Thursday’s plea deal, all charges were dropped except for DWAI.

Boulder County Judge Noel Blum said Dizon would be allowed do his community service obligations out of state. He must work 24 hours for a nonprofit organization.

Dizon, at 6 feet and 229 pounds, registered 463 tackles during his career with the Buffs, the eighth best total in NCAA major college history.

He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the National Football League draft six days after his arrest.

He’s scheduled to play his next game Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
