In 1990, Colorado and Georgia Tech split college football’s national championship.
In 2025, they’ll finally meet each other on the field.
On Thursday, CU announced it has reached an agreement to play a home-and-home set with the Yellow Jackets in 2025 and 2026.
Georgia Tech will visit Folsom Field in the season opener on Aug. 30, 2025. CU will play at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta on Sept. 5, 2026.
“It’s important for us to play games in parts of the country where we can’t get to very often for our alumni bases, and we have a good one in Georgia,” CU athletic director Rick George said in a press release. “It will be a terrific high-profile series, and I am sure some fans will use it to settle the bragging rights back to 1990.”
In 1990, CU won the Associated Press national title, while Georgia Tech finished No. 1 in the UPI Coaches poll. Georgia Tech had 30 first-place votes in the UPI poll, compared to 27 for CU. Overall, Georgia Tech barely edged the Buffs in poll points, 847-846.
Current CU head coach Mike MacIntyre graduated from Georgia Tech in 1989.
CU and Georgia Tech have never played each other in football. In fact, in the current major team sports, the Buffs and Yellow Jackets have played each other just three times — twice in volleyball and once in women’s basketball.
