Former University of Colorado basketball standout Lexy Kresl has been nominated for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Now in its 25th year, the Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
The 5-11 guard from Paradise Valley, Ariz. averaged 12.4 points, 4.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds as a senior earning honorable mention to the 2015 All-Pac-12 Conference team. Kresl wrapped up her illustrious playing career among the all-time finest at Colorado in numerous categories including fourth in free throw percentage (.832), seventh in 3-pointers made (185), 18th in assists (294) and 22nd in points (1,109).
She graduated this past May with her bachelor’s degree in Integrative Physiology. Kresl was a three-time member of the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team and earned a spot on the Capital One All-District 7 Women’s Basketball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Kresl is one of a program-record 480 nominees and one of 207 NCAA Division I athletes. The next stage will be reduced to a pool of 30 honorees and from there nine finalists – three from each NCAA Division – to be announced in September.
The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year which will be announced, and the Top 30 honorees celebrated, at the annual award ceremony Oct. 18 in Indianapolis.
